The Sea in Winter

I love the sea in all weathers so happy to see it chosen as the subject of this month's
Touch of Class theme.
This beautiful image was taken at Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland.
Isn't it a stunning image?  Both soothing and exciting.
Dornoch is on the east side of Sutherland facing the Moray Firth which flows into the cold North Sea.

This desktop is very rich in colour.
The background paper is made by me and will be included in a scrapkit later this week.

My zip file contains a widescreen desktop, a standard sized one and my terms of use.

The image is used under the Commons Creative License.

Visit Vintage Style Cards for details of other lovely gifts for you.

A desktop to brighten November!

There is not much green nor much colour left here in central England, typical gloomy November.
Thought I would cheer it up with this autumn look desktop.
Background paper made by me and the bright sun flowers are by Koko.
My zip has a widescreen and a standard sized desktop with my terms of use.
We are just preparing our card site now for Thanksgiving.  Then we will be into December.
Hasn't this year just flown? Lots of lovely birthday cards there - whose birthday is next? Links on right.
Enjoy.

Lest We Forget, a new desktop

I have made a new desktop for Armistice Day.
The photograph is of The Tyne Cot Cemetery and Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium.
The Memorial here commemorates nearly 35,000 servicemen from the United Kingdom and New Zealand who died in the Ypres Saleint after 16th August 1917 and whose graves are not known. The memorial stands close to the farthest point in Belgium reached by Commonwealth Forces in the First World War until the final advance to Victory. The original photograph was taken by a friend and used with her permission.

The stunning background paper, the picture frame, the ribbon, bow and the Armistice overlay are taken from
the new Lest We Forget Scrapkit created by Judy at Touch of Class.
You will not want to miss this! Unbelievably each new kit from Judy is better than the one before.
The papers and many of the elements can be used for other scrapbook work.

In my ZIP file there is a widescreen and a standard size desktop.

In my other hobby of genealogy I have been busy with a site commemorating the men from
County Sutherland, Scotland. You may enjoy a peek at that.

In our Gallery we have cards commemorating the Armistice.

Autumn again!

Hard to believe that the year is so far advanced that it is already autumn in the UK.  I look out the window now and see so many trees turning red and gold.  The weather men tell us that we are likely to have amazing autumn colours this year due to the large amount of rain that fell.  If that happens I will certainly be out with my camera!

In the meantime I hope you like this desktop and the new look to my blog.

Desktop main image is an old painting 'Ebb of the Day" by John Otis Adams, now a public domain image.  Background paper is from my new autumn papers which I shall post later this week.  If you would like the desktop you will find a widescreen and standard version in my zip file HERE.

We are coming close to Thanksgiving and to Halloween.  We already have greeting cards in our Gallery. Keep up to date on our work by visiting Vintage Cards.

I hope you like it.  I hope also that Mr Heade would have approved.
This painting is now in the public domain.

My zip file contains both standard size and widescreen size desktops plus my terms of use.

A warm coloured desktop

Here in central England the temperatures are already dipping down into autumn. Trees are just beginning to change colour but hopefully will take a while yet! The weather men tell us that autumn will be a blaze of colour this year due to all the rain we have had!

Anyways the chill is here early morning and evening but lovely sunny days. Here is a desktop in nice warm colours for those in the northern hemisphere and for those in the south just enjoy!

You may download my zip file which has a widescreen sized desktop plus a standard size.

I have also made a card for you to wish your friends Good Morning. See that in our Gallery. We have lots and lots of lovely cards there both Vintage and more modern. Keep aware of what we are doing by visiting Vintage Style Cards.

Rose Sunblest

At last a new desktop from me. This beautiful rose has grown in my own garden and survived so much rain it deserves to be seen!

I wish you could also smell the delightful perfume!

The stunning swirl decos were created by Judy earlier this week. They really are lovely. I recoloured them to tone. You can see them HERE.

Desktop is in wide screen size and also standard size - zip file HERE.

To all those Dads in Australia and New Zealand celebrating Father's Day, have a great day. If you forgot to send your Dad a card there is still time. Visit our Gallery and/or our e-card site now.

Remember Me

This is a rose from my own garden, Remember Me, (Cocdestin).

It is a lovely rich colour and one of my favourites. It is a floribunda rose yet produces flowers the size of a hybrid tea rose. It is a real coppery orange shade and one I love.

It has produced lots of blooms this summer but unfortunately we have had so much rain that we are losing petals far too soon. Normally I save the dried petals of all my roses but not this year.

My zip file contains a widescreen and a standard size version.

Have you visited our Vintage Style Card site recently? We have some beautiful cards there.

The Sea Shore, a desktop

I have created this new deskstop which covers three of my favourite subjects, the ocean, vintage people and poetry. I hope you like it as much as I do.

The finished image looks quite simple but it is a blend of more than ten images. I must admit that I did enjoy creating it.

The lovely verse is from a poem named 'The Sea Shore' written by Letitia Elizabeth Landon, 1802-1838. The full poem may be read HERE.

The image here is only a preview. You may download a zip file HERE which contains both a widescreen version and a standard version.

If you like vintage please take time to have a look at our new website, Vintage Style Cards.

Vintage Pastel Desktop

Welcome June. One of the loveliest months of the year in the UK where I live.

We, at Touch of Class, are celebrating the launch of our new VINTAGE STYLE CARD site this weekend.

If you have not yet already had a look please take time to visit.

I have created this desktop using a public domain image of a lovely girl painted by Jessie Barrick in 1910, together with my own scrap paper, frame and bow. If you would like the scrapset it is named Vintage Pastel and you can see it HERE and HERE.

The desktop also part of a poem relating to the month of June by Francis Duggan, an Australian poet. I do not enjoy all his poems but I do love this one. Thank you Francis.

A widescreen version plus a standard screen version together with my terms of use are in my zip file HERE.

Please also take time to visit our new website VINTAGE STYLE CARDS. Links there to all our design team. We also have a guest book and an update blog. We all hope you like the new look. Links to our e-card site and our Gallery on the new site.

My desktop has a matching Thank You card featured in our site.

ANZAC day 2009

A soft muted desktop to commemorate ANZAC day. The background images are from a photograph taken by me in Auckland, New Zealand. The large cenotaph is outside the museum.

The image overlaid on the cenotaph was taken in Messines, Belgium in 2008 at the ANZAC in Europe commemoration services. Morag Sutherland, Scotland, took this lovely photograph.

The desktop is in both wide and standard screen sizes and I have included a copy of Morag's lovely photograph in my zip file HERE.

I hope you will like this desktop.
Joan has a lovely desktop for you also.
There are a few ANZAC cards in our gallery

Spring desktop

Here in central England spring is finally arriving. Yesterday I noticed beautiful cherry blossom beginning to flower. The tulips in my garden are a blaze of colour and I am hoping the rain we are having today does not spoil them.

To celebrate the arrival of spring I have created a new desktop which I hope you will enjoy. I used a stunning photograph of Japanese flowering cherry by Petr Kratochvil.

For the first time I have made the desktop available in four sizes hoping that this will enable you to fit one to your own particular size monitor.

In my ZIP FILE
1024 x 768
1440 x 900
1280 x 960
1280 x 1024

I wish you all a very happy Easter. If you have not yet sent Easter cards there is a lovely selection in both our GALLERY and our E-CARD site.

Tulips & Rose, a desktop & tutorial

At last spring is beginning to show signs of coming to the UK. This has been one of the longest winters in living memory but hopefully we are going to have a nice summer!

The daffodils are out everywhere and the tulips in my garden now have good buds promising a great show. In the meantime, being impatient, I have made a desktop based on tulips. Can you tell I love these flowers!

If you would like this desktop you may download my zip HERE which includes a widescreen and a standard version.

Desktop for Mother's Day

This coming Sunday it is Mother's Day in the UK. I have created this desktop for those who celebrate this event or for those who just wish to remember Mum.

The flowers are from a public domain image. The lovely frame is from a scrapkit by Judy. I recoloured and resized it. She does beautiful work. The bow, butterfly and little tag, I made using one of my own papers.

My zip contains a wide screen and a standard screen sizes plus my tou.

Colours of Australia, a desktop

In the early 19th century many, many people from Scotland, having been forced from their native home by clearances took the long, long sail away from their homeland to the unknown new world of Australia. In those far off days, few if any, would ever see their beloved homeland again. A sad and fearful voyage.

Judy has created background papers entitled the Colours of Australia. They are very, very beautiful and I think the colours of their new home would have given a lift of heart to those brave early immigrants. My desktop is therefore a tribute to them.

Desktop is available in two sizes, standard and widescreen. Please read my terms of use which you will find in the zip file HERE. Judy's beautiful papers are available for download HERE.

Spirits, a new freebie desktop

At last time to create a new desktop.

I wanted to use the lovely images on a desktop for a while and then when Judy created those beautiful grungy backgrounds I thought wow! Ideal for this. I have named this desktop 'Spirits' and hope it gives that effect.

Most of the images have been floating about in the public domain for a long time with the exception of the beautiful maiden with the eagles (top left). This is taken from a wonderful painting by David Penfound who graciously allows his work to be used. Thank you David.

The words are from a poem which I have known for many years. Unfortunately I do not know the author despite spending ages searching through the hundreds of Native American poems on the internet.

So many people are now using Vista with the tool bar down the side of their screen that I have tried something new this time and put a border in that space. Would be good to know if you like this idea. For those without this bar down the side the desktop still looks good.

If you would like this desktop please download my zip which has both a widescreen and a standard size version plus my TOUs.

You can download Judy's lovely grungy background papers HERE.
